Every chapter, a new challenge

Eight mini-games, one family story

Each chapter of your game tells part of your family's story, then hands over the controls. Spelling, maths, logic and word puzzles, all set to the player's age and all built around the people and places in your story.

The mini-games

What each one practises

Every game mixes these through its chapters. The Family Story lets you choose your favourites.

  • The fill-the-gaps spelling mini-game: a family message with missing letters Spelling

    Fill the gaps

Spell the missing letters in messages written by your family. Short words for younger players, trickier spellings as they grow.

  • The driving maths mini-game: steering into the lane with the right answer Maths

    Driving maths

Steer into the lane with the right answer before you reach it. Adding and taking away first, then times tables and more.

  • The catch-the-letters mini-game: catching falling letters to spell a word Spelling

    Catch the letters

Letters fall from the sky: catch them in the right order to spell the word, and leave the wrong ones.

  • The sudoku mini-game on a 4 by 4 grid Logic

    Sudoku

Number puzzles from a gentle 4×4 grid up to the full 9×9, for players who like to think things through.

  • The word search mini-game Reading

    Word search

Find the hidden words from the clues. The words come from your own story: names, places and favourite things.

  • The family crossword, with clues about the family Your story

    Family crossword

Every clue is about your family, so grandparents get to show off too. Included in the Family Story and The Full Story.

  • The zip-line mini-game, flying over the treetops Quick thinking

    Zip-line

Answer quickly to keep flying over the treetops. Quick questions, quick thinking, plenty of cheering.

  • The roller coaster times-tables mini-game Maths

    Roller coaster

Times tables at top speed: pick the right answer before the next drop.

Set to their age

Easy enough to enjoy, hard enough to feel proud

When you tell us who's playing, we set the spelling, maths and puzzles to each child's age. A six-year-old and a ten-year-old can play the same story, each with questions that suit them.

Brainbox mode makes everything harder for quick thinkers, and grown-ups can switch it on too. Stars at the end of each chapter give everyone a reason to have another go.

  • Story games suit children aged about 6 to 11
  • Brainbox mode for quick thinkers (and competitive grown-ups)

Three ways to play

Game looks that keep every chapter fresh

The Full Story mixes all three through your story. Mini games use one look throughout.

  • Bird's-eye

Explore your old street, the park or the first flat from above, collecting things as you go.

  • Lane runner

Dash down the road, dodging and collecting, and steer into the right answer.

  • 3D flyer

Soar over your town and fly through the right answers in the sky.

Why it works

Practice that doesn't feel like practice

Children will happily spell a word ten times if it's the name of their dog, or answer times tables to rescue Grandad from the roller coaster. Putting the questions inside their own story gives every answer a reason.

Each chapter is three to six minutes long, so there's a natural place to stop, and the chapter map shows how far through the story they are.

Questions about the mini-games

Can we choose which mini-games are in our game?

With the Family Story you choose your favourite mini-games. The Mini uses our favourites, and The Full Story mixes in every kind, plus all three game looks.

Are the questions the same for every child?

No. We set spelling, maths and puzzles to each player's age, and Brainbox mode makes everything harder for quick thinkers.

Do they need to read well to play?

Story games suit children aged about 6 to 11. Younger players often enjoy playing alongside a grown-up, who can read the story scenes aloud.

Can we play on a tablet or TV?

Yes. It plays in any modern browser on a phone, tablet, laptop or TV, with nothing to install. Progress saves to your account.
